PATNA: A man was arrested from his Gaurichak residence in Patna late Sunday night for allegedly raping his 18-year-old daughter for the last several years.
The victim lodged an FIR against her father with Women’s police station at Gardanibagh Sunday evening. Women’s police station SHO Arti Kumari Jaiswal said the accused, aged around 35 years, was sent to jail on Monday. Arti said the man worked as a wielder at an iron shop and was a liquor addict.
The SHO said the victim, an Intermediate student, had narrated her ordeal to her mother and other family members, but none came to her rescue.
“The victim somehow reached the police station and alleged that her father used to return home in an inebriated state and rape her. She had also become pregnant once but her father forced her to use medicine for abortion,” Arti said, adding that the victim was eldest among six sisters and one brother.
She said there might be several reasons for the family members to keep mum, including social stigma. “The victim would undergo medical examination. Her statement would also get recorded before judicial magistrate on Tuesday,” Arti said.
The SHO said the FIR was lodged under Sections 376 (punishment for rape), 313 (causing miscarriage without woman’s consent) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act, 2019.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
