PORTLAND, N.D. — A pregnant 22-year-old woman was wounded in an accidental shooting Sunday, May 24, in rural Portland, the Steele County Sheriff's Office reported Monday.
Authorities responded to the call at approximately 8:42 p.m. Sunday. The woman was airlifted to a hospital in Fargo, where the fetus died from wounds sustained in the shooting.
The shooting, which was an accidental discharge of a firearm, is being investigated by the Steele County Sheriff's Office and North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Portland is 61 miles northwest of Fargo.
