    Covid wrap: Important highlights of the day

    • 2091 new positive cases have been reported in Maharashtra today; taking the total number of cases to 54,758. 97 deaths have been reported today.
    • 101 new cases reported in Karnataka in last 24 hours (as of 5 pm today). Total number of cases in the state is now at 2283, including 1489 active cases & 44 deaths (2 due to 'non-COVID19' cause)
    • 646 new positive cases have been reported in Tamil Nadu today, taking the total number of positive cases to 17,728. The death toll is at 127 after 9 deaths were reported today.
    • 25 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Punjab today; taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 2106.
    • 91 new COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir; tally 1,759
    • The coronavirus death toll in Delhi has mounted to 288, while 412 fresh cases were reported during the day. Virus tally in the city is at 14,465.
    • In Gujarat total 14468 confirmed, 6636 discharged, 888 deaths
    • Telangana reported 71 new Covid positive cases on Tuesday, taking the total to 1,991. The state has so far suffered 57 Covid deaths.

    • As Mumbai based start-up has come up with world's first contactless Visitor Management Software with temperature scanner and mask detection.
    • VAMS SafeGuard as is it called scans body temperature, read faces with a mask on while monitoring social distancing on the premise. The software uses 'AI' to allow entry of visitors, only who are only complying to all COVID protection measures.

    India facing its worst recession in current fiscal, says Crisil

    • India's fourth recession since independence, the first since liberalisation and perhaps the worst to date, is here, CRISIL said on Tuesday as it predicted the economy to shrink by 5 per cent in the current fiscal because of coronavirus lockdown.
    • "The first quarter (April to June 2020) will suffer a staggering 25 per cent contraction," it said in its assessment of India's GDP.
    • "About 10% of gross domestic product (GDP) in real terms could be permanently lost. So going back to the growth rates seen before the pandemic is unlikely in the next three fiscals."
