Little Boy Blue viewers were left furious after the latest instalment in the devastating drama series.

ITV's BAFTA award winning drama is being shown on TV again and has proven to be just as hard-hitting on a repeat viewing.

The fact-based crime series was originally broadcast in 2017, but it returned to our screens this week to be shown over consecutive nights.

The four-part show follows the tragic death of 11-year-old Rhys Jones and highlights the police investigation that followed to bring his killers to justice.

It explores the devastating impact the senseless murder had on Rhys' parents, Melanie and Steve as well as how the killing impacted the whole of Liverpool.

Tonight's episode is the third instalment in the show and focused on a potential witness Claire Olssen, who was intimidated into changing her statement, forcing the investigation team look for alternative ways to strengthen their case.

It also highlighted the toxic "grass" culture rife in the city.

Viewers took to social media to share their thoughts.

On Twitter, Scott said: "Scum of the earth those lads."

Niamh said: "Little Boy Blue is SO sad I can’t comprehend how it’s real and how people can be so evil :(".

Jess said: "Every time I hear the name Mercer it makes my skin crawl".

Another viewer added: "Little Boy Blue isn’t any easier to watch the second time round.

"They showed absolutely no remorse for the death of an 11-year-old who’d only gone out to football training."

Ellie commented: "I remember watching #littleboyblue for the first time a few years ago, such a good series but so heartbreaking".

Keith said: "So moving watching this. How can you carry on when losing your child like that?"

Loz said: "I can’t imagine what Rhys Jones’s parents must have been going through. Scumbag Sean Mercer and the rest of his crooks laughing out loud in court. Absolutely disgusting."

Emily added: "And to go on like nothing had happened, scumbags."

*The fourth and final episode of the series will air tomorrow on ITV1 at 9pm
