7 girls among 15 drown in Punjab

MIANWALI/MUZAFFARGARH/MULTAN/ATTOCK: Eleven people including seven girls died in different drowning incident in the country. While three other persons killed in various incident during Eid holidays in various places.

Four members of a family drowned when their motorcycle plunged into a canal on Khushab-Mianwali Road in the area of Bakhar Bar on Tuesday morning.

According to Khushab Police, the deceased were identified as Muhammad Amir (24), son of Muhammad Liaquat, his wife Sunbal Bibi (23), daughter Sehar Fatima (2 months) and sister-in-law Iram (30).

Their bodies were recovered from the canal by the police and Rescue 1122 personnel.

Meanwhile, three people including two teen-aged girls drowned into Chenab and Sindh Rivers, rescuers said on Tuesday.

Search operation to find out their bodies was continued at respective points of the rivers.

First incident was reported at recreational spot Head Muhammad Wall located Jhang road, where victim Mutee-ur-Rehman s/o Shakir Hussain, 17, r/o Kabeer Walla, district Khanewal hurriedly jumped into the river after restraining from police last day. He is feared to be drowned and the body yet to be recovered by rescue’s divers.

In second incident, two girls namely Samreen, 16, d/o Kaloo Umar and Nasreen, 20, w/o Muhammad Nawaz Umar slipped down into river Sindh, when they were busy in grass cutting near Thatta Gurmani, leafy area of Taunsa Head Barrage, tehsil Kot Addu.

Dead body of Samreen was searched out and handed over to her family, while search for Nasreen continued till filing of this report.

Meanwhile, two kids drowned into the river Chenab while taking bath near Gagrah Naseerwala here on Monday afternoon.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, Rescue control room received a call that two kids drowned into river Chenab while taking bath from which a kid was recovered by local people and one was in the river.

Rescue teams rushed to the spot and started search operation for the kid near Gaghra. The recovered kid was also died.

While, two sisters drowned into river Chanab while taking a selfie near Ibrahim Wala Pattan Alipur Road on Monday turning the joyous occasion of Eid into a unforgettable tragedy for the ill-fated family.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, five sisters, residents of Rohilanwali along with their cousin came to river Chanab for picnic. Three out of five went ahead into the river for taking selfie but slipped and drowned into the river.

Local people saved one girl while two drowned. Upon receiving information, Rescue 1122 water search team reached at the spot and started search of the drowned girls.

The Rescue operation was underway for search of 18 years old Kiran and 12 years old Heer d/o Fiaz.

Meanwhile, five persons including three minors died in different incidents in various parts of the district during Eid days.

In the first incident, two cousins who came to their relatives’ house to celebrate Eid, drowned in a mini dam in Dhoke Seelu in the limits of Fatehjang Police Station.

The dead were identified as 9 years old Naqeeb Ullah and 10 years old Aamir Khan. Local divers retrieved the bodies and handed over to their heirs for burial.

While, 14 year old Mohammad Zain who along with his other family members had come from Peshawar to celebrate Eid with his relatives drowned in Akhori dam in the limits of Attock Saddar Police Station. Later, his body was flushed out by local volunteers.

In yet another incident, a man was shot dead while his other relative was injured when two groups attacked each other over a trivial issue in Malhu village in limits of Hazro Police Station.

In the same police station’s limits, a motorcyclist died when he lost control due to over speeding on GT road near Hattain.

Respective police registered separate cases and started further investigation.
