The moment that Ellen De Generes 'forced' Mariah Carey to admit she was pregnant has resurfaced on Reddit.

The cringe-worthy interview in 2008 saw Ellen stop at nothing to get the scoop on singer Mariah's pregnancy, after rumours persisted that she was expecting.

With Mariah keeping shtum at the time amid the speculation, her appearance on The Ellen Show gave the host the ideal opportunity to try and wheedle it out of her.

Mariah was not giving an inch on whether or not she was expecting so Ellen went underhand to force the issue and produced two champagne flutes.

The TV host decided that the best way to see if Mariah was genuinely pregnant was to make her drink alcohol in a proposed toast.

Suggesting the pair have a glass of bubbly to find out, Ellen said: "People are saying you’re pregnant. There’s rumours.

"Let’s toast to you not being pregnant if you’re not pregnant."

Mariah replied: “Don’t discuss that. This is peer pressure."

Ellen was unbowed though and cajoled Mariah into raising a glass and suggested she took a sip.

Mariah just held the champagne flute to her lips before saying it was "too early" for a drink, to which Ellen whooped in delight that she was pregnant and the studio audience went wild.

However, just weeks later Mariah went on to have a miscarriage and did not talk about the upsetting event until she was pregnant again in 2010.

The singer announced the news that she was expecting with husband Nick Cannon to Access Hollywood.

She said at the time: "Yes, we are pregnant, this is true!

"It's been a long journey. It's been tough, because I've been trying to hold on to a shred of privacy."

Once again there was much speculation and Mariah said: "At this point, there is no choice. I either talk or I hibernate."

She also revealed that she miscarried in the weeks after the Ellen debacle.

Mariah said about it: "It kind of shook us both and took us into a place that was really dark and difficult.

"When that happened ... I wasn't able to even talk to anybody about it. That was not easy."
