At least 2 lakh people in seven districts of Assam have been severely affected due to floods. This came as a double whammy for the state as it was already entangled in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. The state disaster management authority has confirmed that districts including Nalbari, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Tinsukia, Lakhimpur, Darrang and Dhemaji have been affected by the flood situation. Over 1,000 hectares of cropland have submerged due to the flood. Water level in Brahmaputra River is rising continuously and in the meanwhile IMD has predicted heavy rainfall likely to occur in parts of Assam and Meghalaya for the next few days.
