Bihar: 1.9 lakh migrants and stranded persons arrive on 73 Shramik Special trains

Around 1.9 lakh migrant workers and other stranded people reached different places in Bihar by 73 Shramik Special trains from Maharashtra and 10 other states on Thursday.

PATNA: Around 1.9 lakh migrant workers and other stranded people reached different places in Bihar by 73 Shramik Special trains from Maharashtra and 10 other states on Thursday.
The East Central Railway (ECR) has received around 1,300 Shramik Special trains and brought back 17 lakh migrant workers to Bihar since May 2.
ECR chief public relations officer (CPRO) Rajesh Kumar said Shramik special trains from Satara, Mumbai, Pune and Panvel in Maharashtra, carrying about 20,000 migrant workers and other stranded people reached Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Bairgania, Katihar, Patna, Motihari and Sitamarhi on Thursday, while two special trains from Nagaur and Jaipur in Rajasthan carrying about 2900 migrant workers reached Kishanganj and Purnea.

Similarly, five Shramik Special trains from Ludhiana, one each from Firozpur, Sirhind and Doraha in Punjab carrying about 11,000 migrant workers reached Gopalganj, Supaul, Kishanganj, Madhubani, Motihari, Muzaffarpur and Sitamarhi on Thursday.
Shramik special trains from Chennai, Salem, Hosur, Tiruppur and Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu, carrying about 6,000 migrant workers and other stranded people reached Darbhanga, Barauni and Muzaffarpur. Another Shramik special train from Katra in Jammu and Kashmir and Karnataka reached Araria and Darbhanga with migrant workers and other stranded people.
Four Shramik special trains from Vapi and one from Udhna in Gujarat carrying about 7,300 migrant workers reached Darbahanga, Barauni and Jehanabad on Thursday, while four other Shramik special trains from Faridabad, Panipat, Hissar and Rohtak in Haryana carrying nearly 5800 migrant workers and other stranded people reached Muzaffarpur, Begusarai and Katihar. One special train from Dehradun in Uttrakhand, carrying about 1500 migrant workers and other stranded people reached Kishanganj on Thursday.

Besides, Shramik special trains from Uttar Pradesh, carrying about 10,500 migrant workers reached Gaya, Khagaria , Katihar, Saharsa and Bhabua on Thursday, while one special train from Jhansi in Madhya Pradesh reached Pt Deendayal Upadhaya Junction with mostly migrant workers from where they were later transported by special trains to Barauni, Goplaganj, Katihar and other places in Bihar.
“ECR had pressed into 22 other additional special trains to ferry stranded migrant workers to Bettiah, Madhubani, Supaul, Buxar, Bhagalpur and Katihar from Danapur and other places on Thursday,” the CPRO said.
Meanwhile , ECR has set up food points at 21 locations falling under its jurisdiction to serve meals, snacks and water bottles to migrant workers travelling by shramik special trains from different states to Bihar. These food points are located at Patna Junction, Danapur, Patliputra Junction, Gaya, Chopan , Dhanbad , Koderma, Barkakana, Renukut, Singhrauli, Daltonganj, Garhwa, Sonepur, Hajipur, Muzaffarpur, Barauni, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Motihari and Bettiah.
