PATNA: Union minister for health and family welfare Ashwani Kumar Choubey on Thursday directed to complete the construction of superspecialty block at Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) by June end and dedicate these health facilities to common people by July.
The minister also directed to begin OPD services in both the superspecialty blocks soon.
He also reviewed the work related to upcoming AIIMS at Darbhanga, which will have 750 beds and Rs 1,361 crore is likely to be incurred on its construction.
This will be the second AIIMS in Bihar and the central government has approved the construction site in January this year. The announcement regarding this AIIMS was made by former Union finance minister Arun jaitley in his 2015-16 budget speech.
In a review meeting held in New Delhi on Thursday, where Darbhanga MP Gopal Ji Thakur and officials of the construction company were also present, it was decided to request PM Narendra Modi to inaugurate the superspecialty blocks and lay the foundation of upcoming AIIMS.
The health minister also asked the officials to report the daily progress of the work and maintain coordination between central and state government officials for better results.
"Apart from another AIIMS in Bihar, the number of medical colleges and primary health centres have also been increased. PHCs and additional PHCs are being converted into health and wellness centres. Every district will have one hospital and there will be laboratories in all the blocks," Choubey said in a press release.
