LOS ANGELES: Johan Renck, the Emmy-winning director of the hit HBO series 'Chernobyl', is in negotiation to adapt John Fowles' cult novel 'The Magus'.
The TV miniseries is being backed by Pippa Harris and filmmaker Sam Mendes' banner Neal Street Productions.

On Thursday Renck posted a picture of the 1965 novel's cover and wrote, “Something is brewing.”

Harris told Variety that the production house is in talks with Renck to direct the miniseries, and added she “couldn't think of anyone better to shepherd John Fowles' extraordinary book to the screen.”

Tom Edge, who wrote the screenplay for the film 'Judy', will pen the script.

“The Magus” is set on a Greek island, where a British man Nicholas Urfe, a young English language teacher, finds himself caught in the mind games of the island's enigmatic owner.

The book was previously adapted by Fowles himself in the late 1960s as a film, starring Anthony Quinn, Michael Caine and Candice Bergen.
