PATNA: A youth was nearly lynched by a mob when he attempted to kill a mukhiya, considered close to controversial JD(U) MLA, Amrendra Kumar Pandey alias Pappu Pandey, in Gopalganj district on Friday.
A country made pistol and four live cartridges were seized from the possession of the youth, Zakir Mian, who has been admitted to the sadar hospital at Gopalganj for treatment.

Mian along with his associate intercepted mukhiya of Bikrampur panchayat, Shailesh Ojha, at Lachhpur village and tried to open fire but was overpowered by his supporters and subsequently thrashed.
On getting information, a police team attached to the Gopalpur police station rushed to the spot and rescued Mian from clutches of irate mob. He was rushed to the hospital where his condition is stated to be critical.
The station house officer (SHO) of Gopalpur police station Ajit Kumar said that one country made pistol and four live cartridges were recovered from the possession of Mian, stated to be a native of Takiabari village in Gopalganj district.
The SHO said that Mian's associate managed to escape taking advantage of the situation. "Raids are under way to arrest him," he added.
Meanwhile, the mukhiya has demanded security for him and his family in the wake of abortive attempt on his life. He is stated to a confidante of
Kuchaikote MLA Pandey, whose name figured in a triple murder case early this week and he is evading arrest.
Pandey's elder brother Satish Pandey and his son Mukesh Pandey were earlier arrested in the killing of three members of a family under Hathua police station.
Ongoing war of supremacy also claimed the life of the lawmaker's relative Munna Tiwari at Rupanpur village under Hathua police station on Tuesday.
Gopalganj SP Manoj Kumar Tiwary on Friday said investigation were going on in connection with the incident and not much details could be shared at this stage. “Raids are going in connection with the killings. No further arresting at took place,” he said.
However, sources from district police said that STF are looking for one Luvkush Sah of Hathua, allegedly a sharpshooter, in connection with the triple murder and were conducting raids to trace him.
Hatuha police station SHO Abhay Kumar said that 9mm pistols were used in triple murder as well as in the murder of MLA’s relative.
“One 9mm pellet was retrieved from MLA’s relative Shashikant’s body during post mortem while he had received at least three gunshot injuries. Four empty 9mm cartridges were recovered from triple murder spot. All bullets had pierced through the three bodies and no pellets were recovered,” he said.
