Maui Arts & Cultural Center presents another of their free nights under the stars with another Starry Night Cinema screening but this time in a first-ever Drive-In Edition that will feature the Disney Pixar film, Toy Story 4. In light of the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions and required social distancing, the MACC has created this opportunity to welcome members of the Maui community back for one of its signature outdoor events. The Toy Story 4 showings take place in the MACC’s A&B Amphitheater Friday night, June 5 and Saturday night, June 6.

Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and the film starts at 7:30 p.m. nightly. As with all Starry Night Cinema events, admission is free, however, due to the special vehicle logistics required, advance registration by phone is necessary via the MACC Box Office starting Monday, June 1 at 10 a.m.

MACC President and CEO Art Vento said:

“Challenging times require creative solutions. The MACC team has designed a fun event that still meets all the current COVID 19 guidelines. We worked closely (at a safe social distance) with the County of Maui and the Mayor’s Office to review all details to create both a SAFE and enjoyable event. It is widely believed that the entire arts and entertainment industry will require a very long runway to recover, and the MACC is no exception. Yet, while we continue this ‘intermission’ at the MACC, as compared to any semblance of programing that has happened historically, we also want to embrace what IS possible, rather than adhere to only what is NOT possible. Even with event specific limitations, we remain committed that – When it can happen on Maui, it will happen at the MACC.”

This edition of Starry Night Cinema is presented by Maui Arts & Cultural Center with the support from the County of Maui, representing another of the MACC’s many free events for the Maui community. Pre-COVID 19, the MACC annually has welcomed over 60,000 people to the MACC for FREE events as part of its commitment to community.

Attendees will enjoy live pre-show musical entertainment by Maui’s own Benny Uyetake.

Due to the current COVID-19 circumstances, the events are requiring special logistics to create a safe, enjoyable environment for audiences. Admission is free but requires advance registration due to a limited number of socially distanced vehicles accommodated each night. Patrons need to register in advance on a first come, first served basis by calling the MACC Box Office at 242-SHOW (7469). Callers need to be ready to provide their vehicle license# and vehicle type information. The MACC Box Office phones are available Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from Noon to 4 p.m. Once a reservation is set, a print-at-home confirmation will be emailed to patrons. This document must be presented and patrons must be in the same vehicle registered in order to be admitted to the venue. A copy on patrons’ cell phones is also acceptable. Reservations are non-transferable.

The MACC’s main entrance will open each night starting at 6:30 pm. Once inside the venue, attendees will not be allowed to exit their vehicles during the film in order to adhere to safety and social distancing guidelines.

Vehicles will be directed by MACC staff to park in order of arrival to maintain safety zones. Due to vehicle spacing, once vehicles have parked in the venue, there will be no early exiting until directed by MACC staff to the nearest exit at the end of the movie.

No alcoholic beverages are allowed in vehicles in accordance with Maui County liquor laws. Restroom use will be limited to urgent needs only and patrons are required to wear a mask and socially distance from others. The MACC is a non-smoking/non-vape venue.

About the film: In this fourth installment for this beloved series of classic animated films, Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of the gang embark on a road trip with Bonnie and a new toy named Forky. The adventurous journey turns into an unexpected reunion as Woody’s slight detour leads him to his long-lost friend Bo Peep. As Woody and Bo discuss the old days, they soon start to realize that they’re two worlds apart when it comes to what they want from life as a toy. The film is rated G and has a running  time of 100 minutes.
