Covid-19 becomes roadblock for 2020 Bollywood weddings
From Varun Dhawan to #RanLia, everyone will have to wait longer
Now, it’s no breaking news that coronavirus has put in a spanner in the works for almost everything and everyone around the world. With regards to showbiz in particular, it has stalled the production of films and TV shows worldwide, meaning hundreds of projects have been left unfinished and nearly thousands associated with the industry, unemployed.
But did you know that the pandemic has also impacted the wedding plans of some of our favourite Bollywood celebrities, particularly Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor. Hell, even Varun Dhawan and his longtime girlfriend Natasha Dalal were slated to tie the knot this year but won’t be able to now, as per the latest rumours.
According to a new report, Dhawan and Dalal were all set to get married in Thailand this May but the wedding has obviously been postponed now. And as for #RanLia’s alleged December nuptials... those are also unlikely now.In his column for Open magazine, celebrated Indian journalist Rajeev Masand all but confirmed this. He wrote that Dhawan and Dalal were supposed to get married in Thailand right about now but the wedding has been postponed.
A Bollywood Hungama report, on the other hand, had quoted a producer as saying that the wedding would take place in May but in Goa. “Apparently, Varun Dhawan and Natasha Dalal are planning to get married in May this year. It will be a grand summer wedding, spanned over a week, with all the events including mehendi, sangeet and reception, mostly in Goa at a luxury hotel or beach resort...” the producer had said. Meanwhile, Kapoor and Bhatt, who have been dating for a couple of years, were supposed to tie the knot in December, Masand added.
The wedding was supposed to take place after the release of their first film together, Brahmastra. But with the film likely postponed due to the virus, and the recent death of Rishi Kapoor, “friends of the couple are guessing the Kapoors may want to ride out the year on a low-key note so the wedding could possibly move,” the journalist mused. Bhatt’s father, film-maker Mahesh Bhatt, had told The Telegraph in an earlier interview that he loves Kapoor.
“Well, of course, they’re in love. You don’t need to be a genius to get that! I love Ranbir... he’s a great guy. What they do to their relationship is something they’ll have to figure out, though,” he had said. “Whether it's heading towards that port called ‘marriage’ — which is an institution that needs to be questioned in the second decade of the 21st century — is something for them to figure out.”
