PATNA: Unidentified armed shot dead a former sarpanch at Lauwalagan Purvi village under Chausa police station area in Madhepura district on Friday evening.
The deceased person was identified as Niwaschandra Yadav, who was aged around 43 years. Sources said he was associated with RJD at panchayat level however police did not confirmed it.
Chausa police station SHO Mahesh Rajak said that slain Yadav was former sarpanch of Lauwalagan Purvi panchayat.
SHO it’s not known to police if Yadav was associated with any political party.
“He was shot dead over village level rivalry due mixed with old enmity. At the time of the incident, he was going somewhere when he was intercepted by bike borne assailants who shot him dead. None saw it happening. Several suspects from the village had fled after Yadav was killed,” he said.
Rajak said that at least four gunshot injuries were visible on Yadav’s body. “He was also shot in head from very close range too. No empty cartridges were recovered from spot by police,” SHO said adding body was handed over to family for cremation after post mortem.
He said Yadav’s wife had become unconscious after coming to know about his killing. “She is continuously under medical observation and is being given intra-venous injection by doctors to keep her stable,” he said adding raids were on to nab suspects. SHO said that police had yet not received any written complaint from the family.
