LUCKNOW: Another spike of covid-19 cases was recorded in politically crucial district of Amethi on Saturday.
According to state’s covid-19 bulletin, as many as 43 fresh cases of coronavirus infection have been reported in the past 24 hours. This is the second time that Amethi recorded a spike in less than a week. On Tuesday, 33 cases were reported in the district important to both Congress and BJP.
CMO RM Srivastava said: “the new cases took district tally to 132 of which 28 have been discharged.
The patients have been admitted to level-1 Hospital in Saidapur in Gauriganj while the remaining are under treatment at Radhey Shyam Satya Praksh Trauma Centre Jagdishpur.”
According to the office of the district magistrate, their reports were received on Friday night. Officials confirmed that all the new cases have ‘domestic travel history’ and said that most returned from different parts of India.
State health officials said that 262 cases including 43 in Amethi were reported across UP in the past 24 hours. With this, the covid-19 tally for state reached 7747. The state also recorded 241 recoveries taking the total number of persons discharged to 4651. This means that 60% patients in the state have recovered.
The state also recorded 11 deaths taking the total number of covid-19 casualties to 213. While three deaths were reported in Firozabad, two surfaced in Meerut. Moradabad, Hapur, Siddhartnagar, Farrukhabad, Etah and Jhansi saw one death each.
In terms of new cases, Amethi was followed by Gautam Buddha Nagar where 23 cases were reported and Ghaziabad where 17 new patients were listed.
Principal secretary health Amit Mohan Prasad said that total number of migrants who have tested positive so far reached 2026. He also said that the state has made large scale preparations to handle the influx of migrants and surveillance activities were underway to ensure early screening of suspected cases.
