MUMBAI: Five lakh stranded
migrant workers from Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka were ferried by state transport buses till the
Maharashtra border, or to nearby railway
stations. MSRTC carried out 41,000 trips to transport the migrant workers.
The expense of their transport, which was almost Rs 95 crore, was borne by the state government, according to a government release.
Desperate workers had started walking toward their home states. The state said that if an ST driver notices stranded people or migrants walking on the road, and if the bus is headed in the same direction, they can board the bus if seats are available.
