The Banlue Group, publisher of the popular Thai comic magazine Kai Hua Ror (Laughter For Sale), has recently launched a special edition comic book to show families nationwide how to protect themselves from the new coronavirus.

Titled KnowCovid (or Roo Than Covid in Thai), the 56-page book uses cartoons and humour to give readers knowledge on how they can reduce the risks of infection for themselves and in their communities.

Presented through health advisory infocomics are basic facts on Covid-19, where the virus lives, 12 common misconceptions about Covid-19, guidance for the elderly, as well as basic but effective measures to keep the virus at bay -- washing hands frequently and properly, coughing and sneezing safely, avoiding touching your mouth and nose and staying at a safe distance (1-2m) from others.

The cartoons also take on sensitive topics in simple and easy-to-understand terms, such as showing people how to reduce stigma surrounding the coronavirus infection and how to be aware of the domestic violence that has increased as a result of pandemic lockdowns.

This comic book project is a collaboration with the World Health Organization, which contributed funding and gave medical guidance for the book's content, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Ministry of Public Health, the Parliament of Thailand, and the KnowCovid Project.

Up to 100,000 free copies of the special edition will be distributed nationwide to village administration offices, village health volunteers, provincial halls, primary and secondary schools, public libraries, state-run hospitals and health centres.

Interested members of the public can get a free copy from gocovid.issara.in.th. However, they are limited to only one copy per family.

The book is in Thai; Lao, Cambodian and Myanmar versions will also be published soon.
