Wajid Khan dies at 42: Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra lead Bollywood tributes

Bollywood celebrities took to social media to extend condolences to the family of Wajid Khan, who died of Covid-19 and kidney ailments in the wee hours of Monday.

Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra, among other Bollywood celebrities, paid tribute to Wajid Khan on social media.

Wajid Khan of music composer duo Sajid-Wajid died in early hours of Monday in Surana Hospital, Chembur, Mumbai, due to complications arising from a kidney infection. The singer-composer, 42, was also suffering from Covid-19 and had undergone a kidney transplant a few months ago. The news came as a shock to Bollywood as many celebrities took to social media to extend condolences.

Music composer Salim Merchant broke the news on social media. He wrote, "Devastated with the news of the passing away of my brother Wajid of Sajid-Wajid fame. May Allah give strength to the family. Safe travels bro @wajidkhan7. You’ve gone too soon. It’s a huge loss to our fraternity. I’m shocked & broken. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un (sic)."

Calling Wajid Khan a bright smiling talent, Amitabh Bachchan paid him tribute on Twitter. He wrote, "Shocked at the passing of Wajid Khan.. a bright smiling talent passes away.. duas, prayers and in condolence (sic)."

Priyanka Chopra, who is currently in quarantine with her musician husband Nick Jonas in Los Angeles, wrote, "Terrible news. The one thing I will always remember is Wajid bhai's laugh. Always smiling. Gone too soon. My condolences to his family and everyone grieving. Rest in peace my friend. You are in my thoughts and prayers. @wajidkhan7 (sic)."

Vishal Dadlani, who co-judged the singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa in 2010, wrote, "Heartbroken. Both @SajidMusicKhan and @wajidkhan7 have been close & true friends. The kind who might see the light on and show up at our studio in the middle of the night just to meet and talk and share a laugh. Can't believe Wajid and I will never speak again.

Sharing a picture of the two music composer brothers, Sajid and Wajid, Vishal added, "Hard to believe we won't meet again, talk again, laugh again, @wajidkhan7 (in front, in the picture). @sajidk21 my brother, you will never be alone and our brother will never be forgotten (sic)."

Karan Johar wrote, "#RIPWajidKhan your music will always live on...deepest condolences to the family and loved ones ....gone too soon.... (sic)," followed by a heart and a folded hand emojis.

Thanking Wajid Khan for his music, Farah Khan wrote, "Gone too soon #WajidKhan.. thank you for the music. Deepest condolences to his family (sic)."

Parineeti Chopra also took to Twitter to condole his death, "Every music session with him was memorable."

A heartbroken Preity Zinta shared a photo of herself with the late singer-composer and wrote, "I used to call him my brother from another mother. Besides being unbelievably talented he was so gentle & sweet. I’m so heartbroken that I did not get to say Goodbye my sweet @wajidkhan7. I will miss you & our jam sessions forever. Till we meet again #RIP #WajidKhan #Gonetoosoon (sic)."

Singer Hans Raj Hans expressed his grief on Wajid Khan's demise and wrote, "#RIPWajid Bhai. The well noted music composer we lost today to COVID19. It's extremely sad we have lost so many good people too early already. Your music will be missed (sic)."

Neha Dhupia wrote, "Just heard the sad news of #WajidKhan passing away... such a great contribution to Cinema of our times... my condolences to the family... may his soul rest In peace (sic)."

Koena Mitra wrote, "Shocked & Disturbed to hear about the demise of Wajid bhai. My deepest condolences. May his soul Rest in Peace. Om Shanti."

Neil Nitin Mukesh also expressed his grief on Twitter. The actor wrote, "Extremely upsetting news. Wajid Bhai has left us too soon. A very positive and fun person indeed. Has left us with so many memories. God give him peace. My condolences with the entire family."

Kiara Adwani wrote, "Gone too soon #WajidKhan Rest in Peace. My prayers and thoughts with your family and loved ones."

Riteish Deshmukh also took to Twitter and expressed how sad and shocked he was by the passing away Wajid Khan.

Randeep Hooda wrote, "Such a good, kind man #WajidKhan Rest in peace brother.

Actress Esha Deol also took to Twitter to express her grief.

Actor Sidharth Malhotra wrote, "Deeply saddened to hear the news of Wajid khan passing away. His music gave life to so many stories. My condolences to his family. RIP."

Wajid Khan gave music for many Salman Khan films and even helped the actor in composing the recent Bhai-Bhai song released last week. The singer-composer had a kidney issue and had a transplant a while ago. He recently got to know about kidney infection and was undergoing treatment at the Mumbai hospital for the last few days.
