Covid-19: 156 test positive, 119 recover in Odisha

In the biggest single-day spike so far, 156 more persons tested positive for Covid-19 in the state on Monday. In the highest one-day recovery, 119 patients were discharged.

BHUBANESWAR: In the biggest single-day spike so far, 156 more persons tested positive for Covid-19 in the state on Monday. In the highest one-day recovery, 119 patients were discharged.
While the number of infected persons mounted to 2104, the number of those cured rose to 1245. Despite the soaring number of new positive cases, the cure rate further improved to 65.3%.
Acknowledging that the state has witnessed the highest number of cases in the past 24 hours, chief secretary Asit Tripathy said, “Cases will further increase this month in view of return of migrants.
So far, 4.26 lakh people have returned to the state and more will return in June in view of gradual opening up of roads and rail.”
According to the health department’s Covid dashboard, 153 of the 156 cases were reported from among people in quarantine centres (where the returnees are being accommodated). Among the new positive cases, the highest 50 are from Kendrapada district followed by Cuttack (20), Ganjam (17), Jagatsinghpur (14), Jajpur (11). The others are distributed in 14 other districts.
The 119 patients who got cured and discharged from the hospitals include 60 from Jajpur besides Cuttack (13), Kendrapda (12), Gajapati (9), Nayagarh (6), Sundargarh (5), three each from Balasore, Puri and Khurda, two each from Ganjam and Balangir and one from Sambalpur.
