On May 31, the first relatively restriction-free Sunday of the postlockdown era in Bengaluru, citizens got their groove back as they shopped, prayed and moved around.
As Central and state governments allow phase-wise relaxation in curbs to get the life up and running again following over two months of lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19, we bring you the latest updates from your city.
Update at 10.50pm: Bengaluru urban district still tops the list of positive cases with a total of 385 infections, followed by Kalaburagi 305 and Yadgir and Mandya 285.

Update at 9.55pm: Inter-state travel restrictions were lifted from Monday, but people coming from Maharashtra to Karnataka would be subjected to several conditions, including seven days institutional quarantine, in view of high prevalence of Covid-19 cases in the western state. (PTI)
Update at 8.36pm: Among the districts in Karnataka where the new cases were reported, Udupi accounted for 73, followed by Bengaluru urban 28, Kalaburagi 24, Hassan 16, Mandya 15, Shivamogga 9, Chikkaballapura 5, Dakshina Kannada 4, Ballari 3, two each from Bidar, Bagalkote and Dharwad, and one each from Vijayapura, Kolar, Haveri and Ramanagara. Update at 7.07pm: While the toll in the state currently stands at 52, as many as 110 patients have recovered and been discharged on Monday. Till now, a total of 1,328 people have recovered and discharged. (ANI)
Update at 5.55pm: 187 new Covid-19 cases reported in Karnataka in 24 hours; total in the state reaches 3,408.
Update at 4.45pm: PM Modi on Monday lauded Karnataka govt for its handling of coronavirus situation in the state. "I would also like to appreciate the efforts of the Karnataka govt in handling the Covid-19 situation, Modi said while inaugurating through a video link the silver jubilee celebrations of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. * A 30ft x40ft vacant site on 3rd Main, Belathur, near KR Puram, is giving the jitters to residents after a body was buried there on May 20 by people who claimed it was a graveyard.
This was the second body to be buried at the vacant plot in six months.
* A dozen districts in North Karnataka, which together account for 1,451 of the state’s 3,221 Covid-19 cases until Sunday, have been seeing a massive spike in infections from the second week of May, coincidentally when Karnataka began issuing passes for inter-state returnees.

* About 60 natives of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have threatened to walk back home from Mumbai if authorities don’t make arrangements for them.
The group was employed in the hotel industry in the country’s financial capital, which has seen a high number of coronavirus infections. Most in the group have been out of work for several weeks. Avinash Pol, a member of a group that’s trying to help stranded natives of Karnataka, has sought help from the respective district administrations.
* With classes going online, many schools have started issuing rules and guidelines on etiquette, underlining that discipline, focus and good manners will remain important in virtual classrooms too.
Some schools have started asking students to appear in school uniforms. “When we started online classes, we did not insist on uniform. But we realised that students are attending classes in house-wear, crumbled and shabby, looking disinterested. Then, we insisted children at least wear the uniform t-shirt and have a decent appearance. It was a harmless rule. And, we saw the difference. The classrooms started getting real. Students became more serious. When I took Maths class last Friday, I finally felt like I was back in a real class,” said Shylini Soans, principal, NewAge World School.
Schools have asked students attending class to choose a designated place, away from distractions and noise, and mostly with a light, plain background like a curtain or a wall.

* The Karnataka government on Sunday notified the ministry of home affairs (MHA) guidelines for Unlock 1.0 by deciding to open religious places, hotels and shopping malls on June 8. Namma Metro services, theatres and opening of schools will be decided at a later date, as prescribed by the MHA.

* Karnataka on Sunday set another record with 299 Covid-19 cases in a single day, pushing the total number of cases to 3,221
* Restaurants, hotels and malls in Karnataka will resume full operations from June 8 and their financial recovery could pull some key sectors out of funk. Agriculture and food processing are heavily dependent on these businesses, and even the constructor segment is pinning its hopes on them.
