NOIDA: The latest data on the number of people put up in various quarantine facilities in the district has revealed that medical and paramedical staff staying in them far outnumber the general public.
In Noida, there are nine centres running currently, including two government facilities (Galgotias Engineering College hostel – GECH and Galgotias University hostel - GUH) and seven private hotels.
Around 286 people have been put under institutional quarantine in these places, out of which 215 are medical staffers.
“We had around 14 quarantine centres when Covid-19 broke out in mid-March. In them, a total of 4,884 people were placed under quarantine. 4,598 of them have been discharged. Currently, only nine quarantine centres are operational where 286 people are under quarantine,” said AK Singh, chief development officer (CDO) of GB Nagar.
While the number of people at both government facilities has reduced drastically, the majority who are in active quarantine are the medical staff. “Since medical staffers are the first source of contact of Covid positive patients and are on duty for long hours, they deserve the best quarantine facility to rest and recuperate," said a source from the health department.
The medical and paramedical staff are required to spend the first 14 days in these centres. “After that, they are to remain in home quarantine for another 14 days during which if their test results come negative, they are attached to a non-Covid hospital," said Singh.
The prices in the paid facilities range from Rs 1,200 per day in Greater Noida to Rs 1,500 in Greater Noida, added the CDO.
