Emmerdale's Sam Dingle will keep a secret turmoil from his loved ones next week, as he struggles with the fears of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Something has been bothering him during the coronavirus lockdown, which is the backdrop to the special episodes airing across the next few weeks.

After filming was halted in March, the soap reintroduced limited cast and crew back to the studio last month to film special episodes.

This would mean the ITV soap wouldn't go off air, while episodes will go down to two a week from next Monday.

A number of characters filmed special episodes to show how they are coping with the lockdown, with them each focusing on different storylines.

The first episode will see Sam face his own fears with new wife Lydia, as he stops her leaving the house.

He's kicked most of the family out of the home so that it's just him and Lydia.

His teenage son Samson is stuck on a school trip, no doubt adding to his worry.

Lydia grows concerned over his behaviour, as it becomes apparent he is hiding something.

She doesn't initially think much of it, until he grows annoyed at her for ordering a click and collect food delivery.

Knowing she will have to leave the house to pick it up, Sam isn't happy.

As the episode goes on, viewers will see the character's unease grow more and more - while Lydia tries to cope with the ongoing changes to life herself.

She tries to work out what he's so concerned about, only for him to eventually snap at her.

With this not being Sam at all, viewers soon learn what is wrong and why he's so panicky.

He does eventually confess all to Lydia, but fans will have to wait until the scenes air to find out what is going on.

As Lydia learns the truth about why he's being so over protective, will she understand?

Emmerdale currently airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7pm on ITV.
