A boy of 14 was arrested after armed police swooped on a Great Barr beauty spot.

Officers were called to Queslett Nature Reserve on Saturday, May 31, to reports of 'males with weapons'.

A samurai sword was discovered in brambles by West Midlands Police's dog unit, while a teenager was found to be in possession of an axe, baseball bat and small knife.

He was arrested but later released while enquiries continue.

West Midlands Police's Dog Section tweeted: "After a report of males with weapons in Queslett Nature Reserve @WMPDogs PD Wez & @firearmsWMP deploy quickly locating & detaining them.

"One in possession of an axe, baseball bat & a small knife.

"PD Wez tasked to search dense brambles & locates a samurai sword 1 in custody."

A West Midlands Police spokesman added: "A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed weapon and possession of an offensive weapon after reports of suspicious activity at Queslett Nature Reserve, Ashworth Road, Birmingham, at about 7.30pm on Saturday, May 31.

"He was released while enquiries continue."
