Believing tantric, TN man murders daughter to be rich

TRICHY: A 55-year-old man in Pudukkottai district of Tamil Nadu was arrested on Tuesday for murdering his daughter. The man strangled his daughter believing a woman tantrik who told him that he would become rich if he murdered his daughter.
Police said the man, identified as Paneerselvam had four children from his first wife, Indira, 47. He got separated from Indira and married Mookayi, 40, and begot a child on her.
Believing the tantric, Paneerselvam, Mookayi and her relative, Kumar, 45, planned to murder his daughter, Vidya.
Vidya was his youngest daughter in the first marriage.
On May 19 morning, Vidya didn’t return home after she went to fetch water from a nearby waterbody. Later, the girl was found near her home in a critical condition. She was rushed to Thanjavur Medical College where she died on May 20.
Pudukkottai district superintendent of police P Ve Arun Sakthi Kumar formed six special teams to investigate the case.
Paneerselvam alleged that someone had sexually assaulted his daughter and killed her. However, the girl’s body had no traces of sexual assault, according to the postmortem report.
On conducting further inquiries with Paneerselvam, the officials observed that he gave contradictory statements. He then confessed to having strangled his daughter believing the words of the tantric.
On May 30, his second wife committed suicide. The reason for her suicide is not known.
Police arrested Kumar along with Panneerselvam and were on the lookout for the tantric.
