Cyclone Nisarga weakens further; now a deep depression
- After hitting the Maharashtra coast with wind speeds of up to 120 kmph on Wednesday afternoon, Cyclone Nisarga weakened into a 'deep depression' late evening, the India Meteorological Department said.
- The process of landfall, which began at 12.30 PM near Alibaug in Raigad district, had completed by 2.30 PM, IMD director general Mrutunjay Mohapatra said.
- Alibaug witnessed wind speeds of up to 120 kilometres per hour.
Indore, Ujjain on alert as Cyclone Nisarga likely to enter MP
- Authorities in Indore and Ujjain divisions in the western part of Madhya Pradesh have been asked to be prepared to deal with the impact of Cyclone 'Nisarga', which is likely to hit the state on Thursday, an IMD official said.
- The cyclonic storm is likely to enter Khandwa, Khargone and Burhanpur districts in the state between 7 am and 11 am on Thursday, the official said.
- Rains have already been reported from some places of the state due to the impact of the cyclonic storm, he said.
Cyclone causes power disruption in 4 Maharashtra districts; 25 lakh consumers affected

- Cyclone Nisarga, which slammed the Maharashtra coast with wind speeds of up to 120 kmph, caused minimal damage to life and property and the "worst is over", the NDRF chief said on Wednesday evening.
- However, NDRF teams will remain deployed and assist state authorities in recovery work, said S N Pradhan, the chief of the federal contingency force, in a video message.

Two dead, three injured as cyclonic storm enters Pune district
- Manjabai Anant Navale (65), resident of Vahagaon village in Khed tehsil, died as a wall of her house collapsed and tin sheets on the roof were blown away in the wind. "Three other members of Navale family also sustained injuries. They have been shifted to a hospital in Chakan," said a senior district official.
- Prakash Mokar (52), a resident of Mokarwadi in Haveli tehsil, also died after the roof of his house was blown away and he was injured while trying to catch the tin sheets, said an officer from the District Disaster Management Cell.
We expect that Cyclone Nisarga will weaken into a deep depression within the next three hours and further weaken into a depression in the next 6 hours. Currently, it lays centered over Pune in Maharashtra.

Man killed as transformer falls on him amid cyclone fury
A 58-year-old man was killed after a power transformer collapsed on him due to the heavy winds in Raigad district as cyclone Nisarga lashed coastal Maharashtra on Wednesday, a police official said. The incident took place at Umate village near Revadanda around 1.30 pm, he said.

- Urging people in coastal areas to remain indoors, NCP MP from Raigad Sunil Tatkare on Wednesday said the threat posed by cyclonic storm Nisarga has still not abated and it may intensify in the evening.
- "The threat is still not over. The cyclone may intensify after evening. Hence, people should stay safe inside homes. They should not step out for any reason," he tweeted.

Rains cause water-logging in Pune
- Several low-lying areas in Maharashtra's Pune remained inundated due to rains brought in by cyclone 'Nisarga' since Tuesday night, officials said on Wednesday.
- Incidents of trees falling due to gusty winds have also been reported at some places in the city.
- The cyclone made landfall in coastal Raigad district, several kilometres away from here, on Wednesday afternoon.
BSE, NSE ready to access carry out operations from DR site amid cyclone threat
- To avoid any service disruption as a result of the cyclonic storm, BSE and National Stock Exchange will carry out operations from disaster recovery (DR) site, if required, the two leading exchanges said on Wednesday.
- In such a scenario, market participants will be intimated appropriately, the exchanges said in separate circulars.

Cyclone Nisarga shows signs of weakening
- After storming the Maharashtra coast with wind speeds of up to 120 kmph on Wednesday afternoon, Cyclone Nisarga has started weakening and its intensity will reduce further by evening, the India Meteorological Department said.
- The landfall of the cyclone began at 12.30 PM at Alibaug and the process was completed by 2.30 PM, IMD director general Mrutunjay Mohapatra said.
- The storm lay 75 kilometres southeast of Mumbai and 65 kilometres west of Pune.
- It has started weakening. The wind speed is currently 90-100 kilometres per hour and the intensity will reduce further by evening, he said.

No major impact in Gujarat after 'Nisarga' makes landfall in Maharashtra
- No untoward incident has been reported in southern coast of Gujarat so far on Wednesday due to the severe cyclonic storm 'Nisarga', which has made landfall in neighbouring Maharashtra, a senior official said.
- Authorities have so far shifted more than 63,700 people living close to the coast in eight districts to safer places as a precautionary measure, he said.

Cyclone: CM asks administration to ensure immediate relief
- Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday directed the state administration tomaintain operational readiness and ensure immediate rescue works as cyclone 'Nisarga moves from Mumbai and Thane to North Maharashtra.
- Thackeray is in constant touch with collectors of districts on the western coast of the state for updates about the impact of Nisarga, Chief Ministers Office (CMO) said.
- Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts have been affected by the severe cyclonic storm, which made landfall in Raigad district with a speed of 100 to 110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph.
Three hurt as cement blocks fall on shanty due to gusty wind
- Three members of a family were injured on Wednesday when cement blocks fell on their shanty in a chawl from an adjacent under-construction building in suburban Santacruz here due to gusty winds, police said.
- Three shanties were damaged in the incident that occured arund 11:30 am in Dawari Nagar locality in Santacruz (East).
- The injured have been identified as Viraj Paste (15), Santosh Paste (43) and Sanjay Paste (45), a police official said.

Cyclone Nisarga: 10 sailors rescued off Ratnagiri coast
- At least 10 sailors were rescued from a ship, which was stranded off the coast of Ratnagiri in Maharashtra due to high tide and heavy rains in the wake of cyclonic storm Nisarga on Wednesday, an official said.
