Demand for opening cinema halls will be examined after careful review of COVID-19 pandemic in June, says Prakash Javadekar

Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar, on Tuesday, June 2, made it clear that the cinema halls will remain closed for at least 97 days before a call to reopen them is made by the government. He said that the demand of opening of cinema halls will be examined after a careful review of the status of Covid-19 pandemic is taken in the month of June.

The announcement by Union Minister came while he held a video conference with Association of Film Producers, cinema exhibitioners and film industry representatives.

According to a note issued by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting on June 2, the meeting was convened to discuss the problems being faced by the industry in the backdrop of the novel Coronavirus or Covid-19 pandemic.
