After cyclone, Mumbai's air quality improves to year's best

Cyclone Nisarga and its accompanying rains seem to have had a positive impact on Mumbais overall air quality index, which improved to 17 on Thursday, the best reading for this year as of now, an official said. The current air quality of Mumbai recorded at noon falls in the good category, that poses little or no health risk, according to the official website of the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR). Mumbai continued to receive rainfall on Thursday, a day after the cyclone made landfall near Alibaug in neighbouring Raigad district. (PTI)

Waterlogging was reported in various parts of the city, including main roads, due to heavy rainfall on Thursday morning. However, the BMC officials stated that they have report of waterlogging only at three spots, but water receded after some time. Six flights were diverted and one was cancelled from the Lohegaon airport on Wednesday because of the cyclonic weather, while arrival and departure of several other planes were delayed. Pune airport director Kuldeep Singh said a SpiceJet flight coming to Pune from Delhi was diverted to Surat and an Alliance Air flight from Hyderabad to Pune flew back. “Another SpiceJet flight from Jaipur was diverted to Mumbai,” he said.
