Tamil Nadu seeks three more special intra-state trains
CHENNAI: Southern Railway has sought permission from the Railway Board to run three more special trains in Tamil Nadu, as requested by the state government.
The proposed special trains include Trichy-Chengalpet-Trichy and Arakkonam- Coimbatore-Arakkonam trains.
Chief secretary K Shanmugam has requested the Southern Railway to operate additional intra-state trains.

The proposed Trichy-Chengalpet -Trichy superfast intercity special trains will run on chord and main lines. The government has requested stoppages for these trains at Ariyalur, Villupuram Junction and Melmaruvathur along the chord line and at Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruppadirippuliyur, Villupuram Junction and Melmaruvathur on the mainline.
Stoppages have been sought at Katpadi, Jolarpet, Salem, Erode Junction and Tirupur for the proposed Arakkonam-Coimbatore-Arakkonam superfast special trains.
Southern Railway, following the state government’s request, is operating special trains connecting the major cities like Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy and Villupuram.
The state government is particular about not running trains to and fro Chennai, which has recorded 17,598 Covid-19 cases till date, to ensure the safety of commuters.
