Pune: Strong cyclonic winds blew away roofs and triggered wall collapses on Wednesday, killing a 65-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man and injuring three others. Two people died in
Raigad district.
The deceased were Manjabai Navale of Wahagaon village in Khed tehsil and Prakash Maokar of Mokarwadi in Haveli tehsil.
Two people were killed in Raigad district - Amar Jawalekar (16) from Shrivardhan in a wall collapse and Dashrath Waghmare (58) after a power transformer fell on him at Umate village.
Former gram panchayat member Satyavan Navle of Wahagaon said Manjabai, her two sons and a grandson had returned home at 3.30pm after working on the farm. "The wind blew off their tin roof and the wall collapsed on them. The woman died on the spot and the others were injured," he added.
District collector Naval Kishore Ram told TOI, "Several houses have been destroyed in Maval, Khed, Ambegaon, Bhor, Velhe and Junnar tehsils due to the cyclone's gusts. The tehsil administration will carry out panchanamas and a ground assessment on Thursday."
