PATNA: A day after the leader of opposition in the state assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav cast aspersion over DGP Gupteshwar Pandey for maintaining silence over Gopalganj triple murder case, the state police chief on Wednesday clarified that the police had been given free hand by the state government to deal with criminals whosoever they may be.
Pandey chose to seek the help of social media to clear the mist over the sensational murder case in which the JD (U) MLA from Kuchaikote Amrendra Kumar Pandey alias Pappu Pandey has been named as accused along with his brother Satish Pandey and his son Mukesh Pandey.

The DGP said that while the thee named accused—Satish Pandey, Mukesh Pandey and Bateshwar Pandey--were arrested soon after an FIR was lodged with the Hathua police station in Gopalganj district on May 25, the allegations against the MLA were being verified, he said, adding that evidences were being gathered to probe his (MLA’s) role in the case.
The DGP said that even the complainant of the triple murder case J P Choudhary alias JP Yadav, stated in the FIR that the legislator was not present at the site of occurrence. “Pappu Pandey (MLA) has been accused of hatching a conspiracy of the shoot out in which JP Choudhary’s father, mother and brother were killed,” he added.
The state police chief revealed that JP Choudhary, who was injured in the shoot out and is undergoing treatment at the PMCH, has also been charged with plotting the murder of one Munna Tiwari, stated to be a cousin of the Kuchaikote MLA. “Our investigation in both the murder cases are based on evidences and not merely on people’s statements,” Pandey added.
In addition, the DGP said that JP Choudhary told the police that he was threatened with dire consequences by the lawmaker four days before the incident at his native village on the night of May 24 but has so far not provided evidence to corroborate the charges against the legislator.

The DGP further stated that senior officials of the CID have been roped into to unravel the truth behind the triple murder case. “An SIT has been set up under the leadership of DIG of Saran range. The members of the SIT are in touch with their counterparts in Uttar Pradesh to nab the accused,” he said.
He reiterated that the notorious gangsters operating in the district would be brought to book at the earliest to instil confidence among local residents. “Gopalganj ki janta police karwayi ko yaad rakhegi (Residents of Gopalganj will not forget the police operation),” he added.
