Varanasi reports 11 new Covid cases, Jaunpur 40

Varanasi: With the detection of 11 new Covid-19 positive patients, the tally of Varanasi reached 214 while 21 infected persons were also detected in Ghazipur, two in Bhadohi and one in Azamgarh district on Thursday.
Chief medical officer Varanasi Dr VB Singh said that with the arrival of fresh lab test reports from BHU, 11 new positive cases have come to light. With it total number of Covid-19 positive cases in the district reached to 114, he said adding, 126 of them have been cured while four had died.
Now, the active cases in the district are eight.
Regarding the new patients, he said that five members of a family of Nakkhighat, who were tested positive, were in contact of an infected person of their home, due to which this are was already declared hotspot. One engineer, who works in Faridabad, had returned home recently by a flight, he said adding, a woman of Gulab Bagh area in Sigra is also among the new positive cases. One person of Haribhanpur in Kapsethi area has been infected by a Mumbai returned person. Apart from them a local youth, who works as driver and migrants returned from Mumbai are in this list. In Jaunpur, 40 new positive cases came to light, confirmed divisional commissioner Deepak Agrawal mentioning, all the persons found infected are Mumbai-returned. Total number of Covid-19 positive cases in Jaunpur reached 248, he said adding, of them 110 have been cured while three have died. Now, total active cases in Jaunpur are 135.
In Ghazipur district, 21 new positive cases came to light after which district’s tally reached to 156, said Covid-19 nodal officer Dr Swatantrata Kumar. Of them, 68 have been cured while 88 are active and being treated in the hospitals of Ghazipur, Jaunpur and Varanasi.
Among the new positive cases, one youth had returned home from Dubai via Lucknow on May 29, he said adding, others are migrant labourers who had returned from Maharashtra and Gujarat. The figure of infected persons came to light on Thursday was highest in a single in the district so far.
In Azamgarh, one youth, who belongs to Mau district and was admitted to a private hospital here for treatment of other ailment, was tested positive on Thursday, said chief medical officer Azamgarh Dr AK Mishra. Total number of active cases in the district has gone up to 127.
Officials in Bhadohi also confirmed detection of two new positive cases. The new patients are from Ramkishanpur of Digh block and Vedpur village of Gyanpur area. With it total number of cases in Bhadohi reached to 48.
