HYDERABAD: Ramagundam commissioner V Satyanarayana, who visited the areas near Singareni Collieries’ general manager’s office in Srirampur, warned poachers against setting up electrified snares for tigers.
After a tiger was spotted by locals near the RK-8 coal mine main gate and the GM’s office in Srirampur in Mancherial district on Thursday, Satyanarayana, along with the forest department officials, visited the place.
"Our aim is to ensure that no harm is caused either to the tiger or the people and cattle.
For this purpose, in coordination with forest department officials, we are taking precautionary measures," the commissioner said.
According to police, three to four tigers have been moving freely in Bellampally, Chennur, Asifabad, Jaipur, Kawal forest areas. In 2019, poachers killed a tiger at Sivaram village in Jaipur mandal of Mancherial district by setting up electrified snares.
"After the incident of tiger killing, we had arrested 16 people including seven members of an NGO in Chandrapur, Maharashtra. With specific focus to end tiger and wild animal poaching in the area, we had bound about 450 persons and since then the practise of placing electrified fences has come to an end," Satyanarayana said.
