BARABANKI/LUCKNOW: A 38-year-old property dealer and owner of a car-garage killed his wife, three children and then hanged himself in Safedabad locality of Kotwali in Barabanki on Friday. The police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder-suicide.
The deceased were identified as Vivek Shukla (38), his wife Anamika Shukla (38) and their three children - Ritu (7), Poem (10), and Babal (5), said the police.

Vivek along with his family lived in the upper portion of the house while his parents and two brothers lived separately in the lower portion of the same house.
According to the police, the incident came to light after Vivek’s mother Mithlesh went upstairs after noticing foul smell emanating from the upper portion of the house.
“She spotted Vivek hanging from the ceiling fan while the air-conditioner was on. She then rushed downstairs and narrated the same to her younger son Mohit,” said SHO Kotwali, Pankaj Singh.
Later, Mohit went upstairs and broke open the door to find all of Vivek’s family members dead following which he informed the police.
Superintendent of police, Arvind Chaturvedi told TOI that prima facie, it appears that Vivek killed his wife first and then his children before hanging himself. “Bodies have suffered brutal injuries, while a knife, and stone pestle has also been recovered,” he said.
“Forensic team has also collected all the samples from the room while a note in red-ink was also recovered which is being examined,” he told TOI.
