    Tamil Nadu reports 1515 new cases of Covid-19

    Synopsis

    The hospitals have been classified under two categories - Grade A1/ A2 and Grade A3 / A4. In the general ward, Grade A1 and A2 hospitals may levy a maximum of Rs. 7,500 per day; whereas Grade A3 and A4 hospitals may levy up to Rs. 5,000 per day of admission, a statement from the Public Health Department said.

    Meanwhile the State now has 31,667 cases of the infection. The State capital Chennai has been the worst affected with 22,149 cases. On Sunday alone, 1156 of the 1515 cases were from the city.

    CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu reported a whopping 1515 new cases of Coronavirus, setting yet another record spike. The government also released district wise testing data for the firs time. Maximum tests have been done in Chennai with 1,21,950 tests. Ariyalur has done least number of tests- 3950.
    Tamil Nadu's test per million average is 6420, whereas the national average is 3278.

    This spike in cases comes a day after the State government set a cap on the rates for Covid-19 treatment in private hospitals.

    However, it specified that if a patient is admitted to the ICU, irrespective of the grades they fall under, private hospitals cannot charge over Rs. 15,000 per day.

    The State Government's decision came after it was found that private hospitals were charging exorbitant sums for Covid-19 treatment.

    The Health department had formed a committee headed by Health Secretary to arrive at the tariff.

    As many as 604 patients were discharged on Sunday taking the number of recoveries to 16,999.

    However, 18 new Covid19 deaths were reported on Sunday making the death toll touch 269.
