Delhi government scales down containment measures in Nizamuddin Basti

The residents of Nizamuddin Basti could finally step out their locality after almost 70 days as the Aam Aadmi Party government in the National Capital eased out the containment measures in the locality after more than two months on Sunday, June 7.

“We are thankful to the government for listening to us and de-sealing the area. With mosques being allowed to open from Monday, we are happy that now we can go and offer prayers,” said Mohd Yamin, secretary of the Hazrat Nizamuddin Council.

As per Delhi government officials, the Basti that was declared a containment zone on March 30, days after around 2,000 people were evacuated from the Tablighi Jamaat headquarters, has reported no case in past 28 days. Thus, the government decided to de-seal it.

 Apart from this, a lane comprising 11 houses in Defence Colony has been declared containment zone, the move that came on Sunday, June 7.
