PATNA: A 35-year-old married woman and her paramour were thrashed, tonsured and paraded half-naked at Khatauji under Sirdala police station in Nawada district on Sunday.
The woman has lodged an FIR against eight known and 61 unknown people. Sirdala SHO Ashish Kumar Mishra on Monday said two of the named accused -- Md Nazir Ansari and Md Israfil -- were arrested. He said raids were on to nab the six others named in the FIR, including Md Sabir, Md Samir and Md Saddam.
“They are absconding,” he added.
The man in his early 30s and stated to be a resident of nearby Jamuay village had been staying with the woman secretly for the last two days. She was reportedly planning to marry for the fifth time. The information was leaked to her four former husbands, whom she had deceived on one pretext or another. They belonged to nearby villages and reached the woman’s house and held her paramour captive with the support of local residents. Subsequently, the man was assaulted in full public view. Later, they tonsured the head of the woman and her paramour and paraded them half-naked in the village. A video of the incident went viral on social media on Monday.
“A police team visited the village on Monday and recorded the statements of some of the residents, who confirmed the incident,” he said.
This is not an isolated incident. Earlier, two women stated to be close relatives, were meted out inhumane treatment at a village under Aurai police station in Muzaffarpur district. Authoritative sources said half a dozen cases of women being subject to torture and assault have been reported across the state since January this year.
