Gujarat Covid cases surge past 21,000

In Navsari, one tested positive, while five others were discharged. A total of 409 were discharged across the state. Another person in Kutch was discharged after a 22-day stay at a hospital, six of the days on ventilator support.

Surat reported 62 more cases, taking the tally to more than 2,200 cases with nearly 650 active cases.

Surat Municipal Commissioner BN Pani has issued requisition orders for beds from five private hospitals — Mahavir, BAPS, Venus, Prannath and Sparkle. Earlier Mission Hospital and Tristar Hospital were requisitioned by SMC.

SMC Deputy Health Commissioner Dr Ashish Naik said, “Seventy five beds each from five hospitals had been reserved for Covid patients… Those shifted from New Civil hospital to these hospitals will be treated at subsidised rates as in Ahmedabad. Patients going directly to these hospitals will not get subsidised rates. We will have a total of 525 beds from all seven private hospitals.”

Amreli reported its second death with three more testing positive, while the districts of Mehsana and Aravalli reported their eighth fatality. With Panchmahal reporting its 13th death among the 114 patients till date, the district’s fatality stands at more than 11 per cent. Vadodara tally neared 1,400 with 32 new cases.
