Swarms of locusts arrive in Sangam city, moving towards Kaushambi

A day after attacking several of the villages of trans-Yamuna area of the Prayagraj district swarms of locusts arrived in different urban localities of the city, on Thursday. From beating of utensils to firing crackers, locals were seen trying all tricks to chase away the swarms of locusts.
Prayagraj: Locust attack in many villages, no major loss to crop
According to sources, the swarm is around three km wide and one-kilometre long.
PRAYAGRAJ: A day after attacking several of the villages of trans-Yamuna area of the Prayagraj district swarms of locusts arrived in different urban localities of the city, on Thursday. From beating of utensils to firing crackers, locals were seen trying all tricks to chase away the swarms of locusts.
These swarms of locusts had attacked several of the trans-Yamuna villages of Koraon, Meja, Phulpur, Karchana etc since Tuesday evening.
Local administration of these blocks along with villagers had effectively faced the attack of these swarms with the help of spray of chemical by fire tenders and playing of DJ’s along with creating smoke in the fields.

However, on Thursday morning these swarms were first spotted at two different localities of the city, one swarm was at Sangam area and the other one was over the old city. Within hours, locals spotted swarms over the sky of localities including Chowk, Chakia, Beniganj, Rajroopur, Allahapur, Gorge town, Tagore town, Company garden, Allahabad University and parts of Civil Lines.
“A friend of mine called me and informed about the attack of locust and when I arrived at my terrace to check, it was like overcast sky, lakhs and lakhs of locusts were seen flying at about 20 feet above me and all were healthy (around 2inch) and looked like number of small sparrows flying in the sky”, said Gopal Srivastava, a local of Rajroopur.
Chief safety officer RS Mishra said, “We have yet not received any written or oral instructions from the district administration to press our fire tenders into service, the moment our help would be required, we will send the fire tenders”.

The Chief Development Officer (CDO), Ashish Kumar said, “This is the disperse swarms which is moving towards Kaushambi after our action against them in Bahadurpur and other block on the Wednesday night, as it is day time, they would not settle down but still locals and civic administration have been asked to fire crackers and make lot of sound so that they keep on moving”.
The official further added that the district administration of Kaushambi along with the state and central monitoring agencies have been informed about the latest development.
