Gujarat records highest daily cases at 513; second highest death toll at 38

Gujarat recorded single-day highest cases at 513 in 24 hours ending 5 pm on Thursday, taking the total to 22,067, crossing 22,000 cases mark. Gujarat is fourth in terms of total Covid-19 positive cases in India after Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Delhi. The new cases included 330 from Ahmedabad, 86 from Surat, 39 from Vadodara and 11 from Gandhinagar.

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat recorded single-day highest cases at 513 in 24 hours ending 5 pm on Thursday, taking the total to 22,067, crossing 22,000 cases mark. Gujarat is fourth in terms of total Covid-19 positive cases in India after Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Delhi. The new cases included 330 from Ahmedabad, 86 from Surat, 39 from Vadodara and 11 from Gandhinagar.
For Ahmedabad, it was the fourth consecutive day of recording 330 or more cases.
Surat recorded its highest cases in the past five days.
With 38 deaths in 24 hours – one death every 38 minutes – Gujarat’s death toll reached 1,385. It was the second highest ever death toll in a day for the state. The deaths included 25 from Ahmedabad, four from Surat and one each from Anand, Aravalli, Bhavnagar, Banaskantha, Kheda, Morbi, Patan, Surendranagar and Valsad.
With the deaths, Ahmedabad district crossed 1100 deaths (1117) whereas Surat reached death toll of 90. For Surat, the deaths were the highest in June so far.
The number of discharged patients got past 15,000 mark (15,109) with 366 discharges on Thursday. In terms of discharged patients, Gujarat ranks third in India after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. The discharged patients included 231 from Ahmedabad, 72 from Surat and 25 from Vadodara.
With the discharges, Gujarat now has 5546 active cases out of which 3643 are in Ahmedabad district, accounting for 66% cases. Surat with 693 active cases ranks second and Vadodara with 491 ranks third.

Out of total 22,067 Covid-19 positive cases in Gujarat, 5573 (25.2%) patients are stable, 15,109 (68.5%) patients are discharged and 1385 (6.3%) patients are dead.
Number of daily tests rose to 6,520 in 24 hours, taking the total number of tests to 2.72 lakh. In the past five days, the number of daily tests were 4817, 5298, 4603, 6080 and 5695.
Number of persons under quarantine declined to 2.07 lakh in Gujarat out of which 2 lakh persons are under home quarantine. On May 31, the numbers were 2.44 lakh and 2.37 lakh respectively.
