VARANASI:
Banaras Hindu University managed to secure its place among 1,000 global educational institutions in the
QS World University Ranking 2021, released on Wednesday, but it is behind Jamia Millia Islamia and
Aligarh Muslim University.
Even three institutions in Pakistan - Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Science (373), Quaid-i-Azam University (454) and
Lahore University of Management Science (651-700) are ahead of BHU.
BHU secured its position in the bracket of 801-1,000.
As many as 21 educational institutions from India are among the top 1,000 in the world.
Only three institutions,
IIT-Bombay (172), Indian Institute of Science (185) and IIT-Delhi (193) are among the top 200.
BHU spokesperson Rajesh Singh said, "BHU, AMU and Jamia Millia have maintained their positions this year. Four other institutions, which were in top 1,000 last year, are not on the list this time. Many top Indian institutions lost a few points while BHU maintained its place."
In
QS World University Rankings, the institutes are evaluated on six indicators,
academic reputation (40% weightage), employer reputation (10%), faculty/student ratio (20%), citations per faculty (20%), international faculty ratio/student ratio (5% each).
