    Delhi government passes new orders requisitioning four more city hotels to convert them into hospitals

    The orders passed from the office of the sub divisional magistrate Vasant Vihar state the government of the national capital territory of Delhi has decided to requisition the rooms/beds in various hotels of Delhi and link the hotels with the nearest hospitals to accommodate more number of COVID-19 patients.

    NEW DELHI: Through new orders issued on Friday, the Delhi government has requisitioned at least four more hotels to be attached to hospitals for admitting COVID-19 patients. Hotels for which orders have been sent on Friday include French multinational hospitality chain Accor's Pullman hotel in Delhi's Aero City, Hyatt's Andaz Hotel and Pride Plaza Hotel in Aero City besides Vasant Continental. ET has seen a copy of these orders.

    The orders passed from the office of the sub divisional magistrate Vasant Vihar state the government of the national capital territory of Delhi has decided to requisition the rooms/beds in various hotels of Delhi and link the hotels with the nearest hospitals to accommodate more number of COVID-19 patients. As per the orders, the hotels shall function as extended hospitals for the attached hospitals.

    The orders for Hyatt’s Andaz Hotel, Accor’s Pullman hotel, and the Pride Plaza Hotel in Aero City state the management is expected to isolate all rooms and place the hotels at the disposal of Apollo Hospital, Sarita Vihar, with immediate effect for accommodating more COVID-19 patients. The orders state non compliance shall attract penal action as per the Disaster Management Act 2006 read in conjunction with Epidemic disease Act 1897 and penal provisions of 188 of IPC. Hotel Vasant Continental is expected to isolate 117 rooms and place them at the disposal of Indian Spinal Injuries Centre hospital with immediate effect.

    The orders further state they have have been issued with the approval of the district magistrate New Delhi.

    According to the orders, all the services including rooms, housekeeping, disinfection and food for the patients will be provided by the hotel, while the ambulance for transfer facility, and bio medical waste disposal will be the responsibility of the hospital. The staff of the hotel shall be provided all the protective gear and will be given basic adequate training and for any shortage of hotel staff, the same will be provided by the attached hospital. The charges will be collected by the hospital and the hospital shall make the payment to the hotel. The hospital can also accomodate their doctors, nurses, and other paramedical staff at their own expenses after deciding the rates mutually.

    CII, which had previously written to the government about a May 29 order to convert five Delhi hotels into extended hospitals said it continues to maintain that hotels are the not appropriate facilities to manage COVID-19 patients and that it has shared alternate models and protoypes for COVID care with the government. In its previous letter to the government, CII had stated hotels are neither designed nor equipped to deal with cases of this nature.

    A case had been filed in the Delhi High Court by CHL Limited, owner of Hotel Surya on the May 29 order of the Delhi government to convert five hotels into extended COVID-19 hospitals.
