KRISHNAGIRIT: Two youths were arrested on Saturday on charges of killing a jallikattu bull at Papparapatti in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu.
The Krishnagiri town police identified the arrested as K Lokesh, 23, and M Periyasamy, 19, of Papparapatti.
A team of veterinarians on Saturday exhumed the carcass and performed postmortem.
The police said K Vettrivel, village administrative officer posted at Chennasandram who raised the bull, found the animal dead with injuries on the mouth and broken horns in his farm on June 5.
He presumed that the bull might have sustained injuries after hitting a nearby tree and succumbed to injuries. He buried the carcass in his farm on the same day.
Five days later, he was shocked when he came across a video, which showed some men under the influence of alcohol tormenting and abusing the bull. He realised that the bull sustained a head injury after smashing into the tree while escaping from the drunk men.
He lodged a complaint with Krishnagiri police. He had been rearing the bull for nearly two years. The bull had participated in a few jallikattu events.
