Covid projects in PG syllabi of Purulia varsity
Purulia: Covid-19 has found a place in the postgraduate syllabi of Bengal. Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University (SKBU) in Purulia has become the first varsity in the state to test its students on their knowledge of the novel coronavirus, which has disrupted the world.
“Postgraduate students in several disciplines of SKBU will either have to do a project or submit a research paper on Covid-19,” said vice chancellor (VC) Dipak Kar.
“In MA and MSc, for subjects like sociology, economics, geography, political science and philosophy, the projects or research papers will carry 50 marks,” he said.
Kar maintained that no other university in the state had included Covid-19 in the syllabi. “We are showing the way to other varsities and educational institutions in the state,” he added.
Varsity officials said masks and sanitisers were being made on the campus and distributed across the district. Moreover, SKBU is organising daily community kitchens in different parts of Purulia. Cooked food is being served to the poor. Students also went to remote villages of Ayodhya Hills and distributed relief materials. They rustled up Rs 10 lakh for the purpose, officials added.
