CHENNAI:
Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday laid the
foundation stones for five manimandapams (
memorials) to honour
leaders, social reformers, great poets and scholars who brought fame to the state. The foundation stones were laid through videoconferencing.
Palaniswami made a suo motu statement in the assembly in February last year about the government’s plan.
The memorials will be built with life-size statues of Perumpidugu Mutharaiyar at Rs 99.25 lakh in Trichy, Kavimani Desiya Vinayakam Pillai at Rs 92.27 lakh in Thovalai in Kanyakumari district.
Memorials will also be built for Justice party leader A T Panneerselvam at Rs 43.4 lakh in Trichy district, M K Thyagaraja Bhagavathar at Rs 42.69 lakh in Trichy district and Allala Elaya Nayagar at Rs 21.8 lakh at Jedarpalayam in Namakkal district.
The chief minister opened police stations, residential quarters and fire and rescue services buildings in various parts of the state. He also opened two floors in an integrated finance complex in Nandanam in Chennai, which will house departments like small savings, training centre and hostel, Mambalam-Guindy sub-treasury office, government data centre, public finance management system and government e-market.
