Gujarat scales another high, records 524 Covid-19 positive cases in 24 hours; total now at 24,628

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat in 24 hours ending 5 pm on Tuesday recorded 524 Covid-19 positive cases, the highest single-day jump for the state – at the average of 11 cases every 30 minutes. With the new cases, the state tally is now at 24,628. Gujarat also recorded deaths of 28 Covid-19 positive patients in the same time.
It was the fourth consecutive day for the state to record 500-plus cases and sixth in the past seven days.
In June, Gujarat has so far added 7,834 or 32% of cumulative cases.
The new cases include 332 from Ahmedabad, 71 from Surat, 41 from Vadodara, 22 from Gandhinagar and 10 from Rajkot. The deaths were recorded from Ahmedabad (21), Surat, Vadodara and Sabarkantha (two each) and Panchmahal (one).
The state recorded discharge of 418 patients, taking the total to 17,090. The discharges include 235 from Ahmedabad, 83 from Surat, 62 from Vadodara and eight each from Surendranagar and Valsad.
With the developments on Tuesday, the state now has 24.4% active patients (6,004), 69.4% of the patients are discharged (17,090) and 6.2% of the patients are dead (1534). In terms of active patients, Gujarat has retained its fourth position among Indian states.
Gujarat carried out 4,961 tests in 24 hours to find new Covid-19 positive cases, taking the cumulative tests to 2.97 lakh. In the past seven days, Gujarat has carried out below 5,000 tests four times – it was the third consecutive day of below 5,000 tests for the state.
As on Tuesday evening, Gujarat has 2.12 lakh persons under quarantine out of which 2.08 lakh are under home quarantine.
