NOIDA: Two days after a 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped on a moving bus by one of its two drivers, police on Friday claimed to have arrested the conductor. However, the main accused and the bus owner are still on the run. The other driver, who was at the wheel at the time of crime, was arrested on Wednesday.
TOI had on Thursday reported that the woman, who was travelling with her two children from Pratapgarh to Noida, was allegedly gagged and raped on the bus by one of its two drivers in the early hours of Wednesday when 12 other passengers on board were fast asleep.
The crime, police said, happened somewhere between Lucknow and Mathura around 3am.
Cops said they have added the names of bus owner Rakesh Chaurasia and conductor Amit to the FIR lodged in the case, and nabbed the latter late on Thursday night. Amit, who is originally from Bijnor district, and the second driver, Deepak, tried to influence the woman to "settle the matter after taking money" rather than informing the police.
All of them have been booked under IPC sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) and 202 (intentional omission to give information of offence by person bound to inform). "Efforts are on to nab the main accused Rattan, a resident of Ghaziabad's Misalgarhi area, as well as the bus owner," an official said.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
