CHANDIGARH: The UT administration will not run the second Shramik Special from Chandigarh to Patna on June 22 after only 1046 passengers out of more than 11,000 registered boarded the train having a capacity of 1,600 on Friday.
Yashpal Garg, secretary, social welfare department, UT, said the authorities took the decision after a review. He claimed migrants stranded in the city were not interested in going back to their villages.
He said they will inform the Ambala division about the non-requirement of more Shramik Special trains from the city.
On Friday, the train for Patna left, with stoppages at Saharanpur, Moradabad, Bareilly, Hardoi, Lucknow, Rai Bareilly, Amethi, Pratapgarh, Varanasi, Mughal Sarai), Buxar and Ara stations.
From two days, the control room of the administration is contacting stranded migrants for optimum utilisation of the trains. In the last two days, more than 11,000 registered people were contacted through telephone calls and SMSs about the trains to Uttar Pradesh. SHOs were requested through the SSP to inform stranded people in their respective areas.
