GUWAHATI: With the onset of the
monsoon, nearly 10,000 people in five districts of
Assam have been hit by the floods.
The Central Water Commission (CWC) of Jal Shakti Ministry on Friday also issued a flood alert for the
Brahmaputra river in four districts in the state.
The floods have affected 9,401 people of 38 villages in five districts of the state of whom 30 are taking shelter in one relief camp. A total of 1,745 hectares of cropland has also submerged.
Ten people have died in the state so far during the first wave of floods.
According to an ASDMA bulletin issued on Friday evening, six revenue circles in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Nalbari,Barpeta and
Jorhat districts have been affected.
The Brahmaputa is flowing above the danger level at Neematighat,in Jorhat, Dikhow at Sivsagar, Dhansiri at Numaligarh, Giolaghat,
Jia Bharali at NT road crossing,Sonitpur and the Beki at Barpeta district.
The ASDMA statement also said landslides were reported in Kamrup metropolitan district where a house was completely damaged and affected 16 people of whom one has been admitted to a nearby hospital.
Erosion was also reported in
Dibrugarh, Biswanath and Baksa districts. Damages to roads and breaches in embankments were also reported.
In Sivsagar district, portions of Dekhow left-bank embankment was damaged and a bamboo bridge washed away at Kakoi Rajgarh village in Lakhimpur district.
