BENGALURU: Four months after a 70-year-old mining baron was stabbed to death, police have arrested five supari killers for the murder and are hunting for the prime suspects — his younger son and brother who had allegedly commissioned the crime.
Singanamale Madhav, resident of SRR Raj Enclave Royal Palms Layout, Gubbala, was stabbed to death outside his apartment around 1.30pm on February 14. Madhav’s wife Parvati had filed a police complaint accusing her youngest son Harikrishna and brother-in-law Shivaram of killing her husband over property issues.

The Madhavs’ two elder sons worked with their father, while the youngest wanted to float his own business, Talaghattapura police said. Announcing the arrests on Friday, police commissioner Bhaskar Rao said Madhav owned a mining company, Ballari Steels and Alloys Ltd, located on the outskirts of Ballari and spread over 2000 acres.
DCP (south) Rohini Sepat Katoch said, “Investigation revealed Harikrishna and Shivaram had made several attempts to kill Madhav, who had filed attempt-to-murder and kidnap complaints against the two in SJ Park, JC Nagar, Subramanyanagar, Viveknagar and Bengaluru Rural police stations.”
Parvati said her husband had escaped at least three attempts on his life. “Harikrishna and Shivaram often fought with my husband over property. They wanted a major share in his business and Harikrishna was forcing to transfer our properties in Ballari to his name. My husband rejected their demands and they murdered him,” read her police complaint.
According to confessions made by the arrested, Harikrishna and Shivaram hired them to kill Madhav for Rs 25 lakh and paid an advance of Rs 7.5 lakh. The arrested are Riyaz Abdul Sheik alias Goa Riyaz, 40, and I Sharukh Mansoor, 24, residents of Margao, Goa, Shahabaz Syed Ahmed, 23, of Yelahanka, Adil Shabbir Khan, 28, of Yeshwantpur and Salman Zakriya, 24, of Shamanna Garden. Sheik had been booked under Pocso Act in Goa.
