UP: Ex-Bahujan Samaj Party leader Pintu Sengar shot dead in Kanpur

Ex-Bahujan Samaj Party leader Pintu Sengar, who had shot into limelight when he gifted UP chief minister Mayawati a 3-acre of plot on the moon on her birthday, in the year 2010, was sprayed with bullets by four unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants in JK Ashiyana colony area under the limits of Chakeri police station in the city on Saturday afternoon.

KANPUR:Ex-Bahujan Samaj Party leader Pintu Sengar, who had shot into limelight when he gifted UP chief minister Mayawati a 3-acre of plot on the moon on her birthday, in the year 2010, was sprayed with bullets by four unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants in JK Ashiyana colony area under the limits of Chakeri police station in the city on Saturday afternoon.
Sengar, who sustained serious gun shot wounds was rushed to a private hospital where doctors pronounced him brought dead on arrival.
The assailants managed to flee the spot unchallenged despite presence of several people in the vicinity.
The police claimed that four men were involved in the crime, and they came on two separate motorcycles.
Police are scanning the CCTV footage to identify the accused, besides several police teams have also been formed to search for them.
Sengar, who was a resident of Mangla Vihar, had earlier held a post in Bahujan Samaj Party. He had also unsucessfully contested assembly election from Cantt area of the city. His mother Shanti Devi is a Zila Panchayat member from Gogumau area of Kanpur Dehat. Sengar however shot into limelight when he had gifted then UP chief minister Mayawati a 3-acre of plot on the moon on her birthday, in the year 2010. The move resulted in his ouster from the party.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Dinesh Kumar P reached the spot soon after getting information. All entry and exit points of the City have been sealed.

"The four riding on two motorcycles shot Sengar while he was coming out of his Innova vehicle. Before anyone could realize, the four fled away. We have accessed CCTV footages from the area to ascertain the identity of killers," said an official privy to the investigation.
The police following inputs provided by kin have also started raiding the possible hideouts of his rivals, who had perpetrated murderous attack on him earlier.
The body has been sent for post mortem and the SSP said that the accused would be arrested soon.
Locals, meanwhile, told TOI several rounds were fired at Sengar while he was coming out of his SUV near the JK Ashiyana colony house of former district president of Samajwadi party.
“Upon hearing the gunshot noise, people rushed to the spot and alerted police following which Sengar was rushed to a private hospital where he was declared brought dead," they added. Police said, 5 to 6 spent cartridges were recovered from the crime scene.
An investigator said that prima facie it appears that it is a planned attack, adding that the bullets hit him on his vital body parts.
